EyeMind GazeDriver (Eye-Control System for Powered Wheelchairs)
Description
GazeDriver is an assistive device for eye control of a powered wheelchair, designed to give people with severe physical mobility limitations independence and self-determination. It operates without a screen, so the user’s view is not obstructed, allowing full visibility in all directions—a clear advantage over traditional screen-based eye-tracking solutions.
The system uses a precise eye tracker that detects eye movements and translates them into control commands for the wheelchair. GazeDriver can intuitively control driving movements (forward, backward, right, left) and, in the future, also function as an eye-controlled mouse on a tablet, phone, or PC. This enables communication, browsing, and typing, significantly enhancing participation in everyday life.
The focus is clearly on everyday usability: sitting at home, independently navigating outdoors, participating in school or work, and engaging in social interactions without a caregiver. Safety is built in: if the user’s gaze is diverted, the wheelchair stops automatically—an important feature that reduces risks and builds confidence.
GazeDriver can be personalized via a Wi-Fi setup to adjust response times, sensitivity, and functions to individual needs. Its robust construction, along with certification according to relevant standards (e.g., ISO 7176-14), underscores its quality and reliability.
