Blumil SPORT (towing device)
Description
The Blumil SPORT is an electric towing device, or handbike attachment, designed for manual rigid-frame wheelchairs. The system transforms a compatible active wheelchair into a powered mobility solution at the push of a button. According to the manufacturer, the electric docking process is fully automatic and takes approximately five seconds, without requiring permanently mounted brackets or adapters on the wheelchair.
The towing device was specifically developed for users who wish to expand their mobility, range, and independence. It is particularly suitable for people with limited walking ability, spinal cord injuries, tetraparesis, hemiparesis, or other mobility impairments. The system is designed for most manual rigid-frame wheelchairs. According to the manufacturer, folding wheelchairs are not supported.
The Blumil SPORT is equipped with a 500-watt electric motor, a 12-inch pneumatic front wheel, a disc brake, and traction control. Power is supplied by a removable lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 14.5 Ah, equivalent to approximately 696–700 Wh. Depending on operating conditions, the manufacturer specifies a range of up to 60–70 kilometres. The maximum speed is 25 km/h and can be limited if required. A reverse gear is also available.
The LCD display provides information including speed, riding mode, battery level, total distance travelled, average speed, maximum speed, and light status. A powerful LED lighting system improves visibility. The adjustable steering angle allows the device to be adapted to different user requirements.
Compared with many conventional towing devices on the market, the Blumil SPORT stands out particularly for its fully electric docking system that requires no fixed wheelchair brackets, its integrated traction control, and its tool-free, rapid connection to the wheelchair.
